Finishing Basics

Flabbergasted by finishing? Learn the basics of washing/blocking and weaving in ends.

Day / Date / Time: Saturday, June 8; 10:30AM - 12:30PM
Yarn: DK or worsted weight, wool or wool blend with less than 20% acrylic
Amount: From stash is OK, less than 100 yards
Needles: Size recommended by yarn
Blocking Needs: T-Pins, tapestry needles
Other: Knitter's Tool Kit

PRE-WORK:

Swatches 1 and 2: work TWO 5"" square swatches in stockinette (knit) or all single crochet (crochet). Bind off. Leave hanging ends.

Work either ONE of the following openwork swatch, patterns:

Swatch three, KNIT: Cast on 30 stitches.
Row 1 (RS): k1, * yo, k2tog, p1, k1; rep from * to end of row.
Row 2: p1, * yo, p2tog, k1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 5". Bind off.

Swatch three, CROCHET: chain 30 sts.
Row 1: 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, * skip 1 ch, 2 dc in next ch; rep from * to last 2 ch, skip 1 ch, 1 dc in last ch, turn.
Row 2: ch 3, * skip 2 sts, 2 dc between 2nd skipped st and next st; rep from * to last 2 sts, skip 1 st, 1 dc in top of turning ch. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 5". Pull yarn through last loop.
